Value of the deep femoral artery as alternative inflow source in infrainguinal bypass surgery.
2013
Background The purpose of this study was to analyze the long-term results of infrainguinal bypass surgery using the deep femoral artery (DFA) as the inflow source. Methods Between 1998 and 2011, 88 bypasses of the lower limb were placed in 86 patients (mean age 71 years) using the deep femoral artery as inflow. Patients' records were retrieved from a computerized database and analyzed retrospectively. Results Critical limb ischemia (rest pain/tissue loss) was the indication in the majority (87.5%) of cases. The distal anastomosis of the bypass grafts was located at the popliteal level in 32 cases and the tibial (pedal) level in 52 cases, respectively, with the autologous vein as conduit in …
Pool choice in a vertical landscape: tadpole rearing site flexibility in phytotelm-breeding frogs
2021
AbstractMany species of Neotropical frogs have evolved to deposit their tadpoles in small water bodies inside plant structures called phytotelmata. These pools are small enough to exclude large predators but have limited nutrients and high desiccation risk. Here, we explore phytotelm use by three common Neotropical species: Osteocephalus oophagus, an arboreal frog that periodically feeds eggs to its tadpoles; Dendrobates tinctorius, a tadpole-transporting poison frog with cannibalistic tadpoles; and Allobates femoralis, a terrestrial tadpole-transporting poison frog with omnivorous tadpoles. We found that D. tinctorius occupies pools across the chemical and vertical gradient, whereas A. fem…
Stellenwert der MR-Tomographie bei traumatischen Patellaluxationen
1995
PURPOSE To describe the MR imaging findings in patients with lateral patellar dislocation. MATERIAL AND METHODS The MRIs of 31 patients with patellar dislocation were evaluated retrospectively. Arthroscopic surgery was performed in 23 cases. RESULTS Hemarthrosis was found in 30/31, contusions of the lateral femoral condyle in 30/31 and of the medial patellar facet in 26/31 cases. Injury of the medial patellar retinaculum was seen in 28/31 cases. Osteochondral fractures were found in 18 patients; compared to arthroscopy there were one false-positive and 5 false-negative findings concerning loose cartilage bodies. In 7 cases, patellar dislocation was not suspected before MR imaging. CONCLUSIO…
Femoral, Direct, and Rare Inguinal Hernias in Children-An Update.
2017
AbstractPediatric surgeons deal with inguinal hernias on a regular basis. While most of these are straightforward in terms of diagnosis and therapy, occasionally what initially sounds like a routine case turns out to be a perplexing conundrum. This review discusses rare and unusual findings in the groin area that may mimic an indirect inguinal hernia, but are not. To provide good and effective care, pediatric surgeons should be readily familiar with the possible differential diagnosis of these entities, along with their specific management. In general, laparoscopy is one of the most useful interventions to discern unusual groin pathology from standard indirect inguinal hernias and in many c…
Treatment of femoral pseudoaneurysm after vascular procedure. In: A multidisciplinary Approach to Cardiovascular Diseases

Symptomatic Deep Femoral Artery Pseudoaneurysm Endovascular Exclusion. Case Report and Literature Review.
2017
Deep femoral artery pseudoaneurysms (DFAPs) are rare and generally occur after penetrating trauma or surgical procedures. A 36-year-old obese man presented with pain in correspondence of the anterior-lateral thigh after 6 months from gunshot wound. Duplex and computed tomography (CT) showed a bilobed right DFAP (maximal diameter 12.9 cm). The patient was managed urgently, under local anesthesia, by placement in the distal DFA of a Viabahn 8 Ã 100-mm stent graft (W L Gore & Associates, Inc). The postoperative course was uneventful, and the 24-month CT showed regular stent-graft patency and 20-mm DFAP shrinkage. The literature review reported 8 cases of DFAPs; of these 6 were managed by endo…
Treatment of de novo femoro-popliteal lesions with a new Drug Coated Balloon: early experience of a single Center in the first 50 patients
2018
Angioplasty with drug-coated balloon (DCB) is an emerging and reliable method for the treatment of femoro-popliteal lesions. We report our experience with the Stellarex™ DCB in the first 50 patients. Methods - From July 2015 to November 2017, 50 patients (41 M, 9F), medium age (64 ± 7.4 year) were subject to 33 angioplasties (PTAs) for femoro-popliteal lesions with a paclitaxel-coated balloon (Stellarex™). Based upon clinical data sixteen patients had severe claudication (56% - Rutherford class 3); ten patients suffered from ischemic rest pain (34% - Rutherford class 4); and five presented minor tissue loss (10% - Rutherford class 5). 42% of patients showed femoro-popliteal lesion TASC-II B…
Mesothelial cyst of the round ligament of the uterus A case report of a rare condition
2021
Supracondylar femoral fracture with an incidental enchondroma of the tibial plateau
2019
The enchondroma is a benign tumor of the endosteal cartilage and it is common in young-adult patients. These tumors are usually diagnosed when a pathologic fracture occurs at the site of the lesion or when they are accidentally discovered during investigations performed for other reasons. This report describes the case of a patient with an enchondroma of the external tibial plateau. Diagnosis was made treating an ipsilateral supracondylar femoral fracture caused by a traffic accident
